Market America has shipped exclusive products and hundreds of holiday cards, candy, food, games, and other entertainment items to a number of military platoons serving overseas. Among the products that Market America has donated include its Torch™ After Burn and Pre Burn packets to increase energy and support the body with an antioxidant and cardiovascular defense, its Transitions™ CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid) products to help maintain weight loss while serving in Iraq, and Awake™ Energy Drinks that provide antioxidant defense, long-lasting energy and mental focus without the effects of high caffeine and sugar.
In addition to Market America products, just a few of the items Market America employees have donated are cards with well wishes from employees' children, non-perishable items such at M&M's and Jolly Ranchers, nerf footballs, playing cards, dominoes, crossword puzzles, and magazines.
Recently, Market America received photos and a thank you note from Master Sergeant Travis Scott Bertram, who is the nephew of a Market America Customer Manager. Travis has served in the military for over 20 years and has been deployed to Iraq seven times. While Travis was quick to thank Market America for donating products to his platoon, Market America would like to thank Travis, the 118th Aero Medical Evacuation Squadron and all the troops serving overseas. Those included in the pictures along with Travis are Major Kendall Sawyers who has served 15 years in the military and Tech Sergeant Chip Beal who enlisted immediately after 9-11.
Market America also received a thank you note from Major James Lewis, whose mother Loretta works in our MIS department. Major Lewis wrote in to thank Market America for the products sent to him in Iraq. James graduated from West Point in 1994 and has served 14 years in the military. His platoon is stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina and will be serving several more months in Iraq, and then will be deployed to Afghanistan for one year.
While Travis and James were quick to thank Market America for donating products to their platoons, Market America thanks all the troops serving overseas. The appreciation they have shown Market America for such a small gesture compared to what they do is truly touching.
Market America has a long history of reaching out to individuals and charity organizations with a helping hand. A staunch supporter of the Make-A-Wish™ Foundation, Market America has helped grant special wishes for children who have had life-threatening illnesses.
In 2006, Katie, a 10-year-old girl from Lexington, N.C., had been diagnosed with Friedreich’s ataxia. Her wish was to meet country music star, Reba McEntire.
Market America arranged to have a limousine pick Katie up from school and take her to a wish-granting party at the Greensboro home of JR and Loren Ridinger. The fiesta-themed event was attended by Katie‘s family, the local media, Make-A-Wish representatives and members of the corporate team.
The big day for Katie came on October 26 in Hollywood, California when she was able to meet Reba backstage at the CMT Giants Tribute to Reba McEntire. Katie got to watch the rehearsal of the show and was later featured as a special guest during the taping with many music industry greats singing Reba McEntire hit songs.
On November 12, 2007, Market America teamed up with Make-A-Wish once again to help a young boy realize his dreams of going to Disney World. Michael, 8, of Denton, N.C., was born with a severe heart defect and already has had two open-heart surgeries in his short life. He expects another before he's in middle school. A similar defect killed his twin brother, Mark, in 2006.
Market America hosted a luncheon party for the family at the Ridinger home. As a special treat, a surprise phone call was made by Howie Mandel of NBC’s "Deal or No Deal" game show to Michael during the party. Mandel is Michael’s favorite TV personality, and the show is a family favorite. Michael's mother, Georgia, said Michael and his older brother, Matthew, 10, and sister, Melissa, 17, watch the show every time it is on. After the festivities, the family was off to Disney World.
The Market America family is pleased to be a part of helping bring joy to others and making wishes come true.
